Background

Bentley Raceway and Cable Management Update 4 comes with a new automation tool named ‘AutoPlace Conduit.’

This tool automatically creates conduits between the equipment and either Raceway or Trench Systems.

This wiki article will provide steps to use the AutoPlace Conduit tool for the Trench system.

Steps To Accomplish

  1. Open the raceway DGN file or the file which is registered as 3D Model Raceway.
You can reference the raceway DGN file to Equipment DGN file to place some equipment near to the trench systems and back to raceway DGN file again for using AutoPlance Conduit tool.
Alternatively, you can register the test DGN file as 3D Model Equipment * Raceway and place raceway (Trench) and equipment in the same file.

  2. For routing Trench, navigate to Underground System and click on Trench Router.
The Trench router dialog will open. Select the desired trench settings and provide the Voltage levels to the routing lines.

On the Right Side Supports tab click the checkbox to copy supports settings from the left side.

  3. Route the trench systems and place some equipment as explained in Step 1.

Also, place some equipment with Conduit connections as UDA.

Sometimes equipment needs to connect to different raceway systems of different voltage levels.

By defining a new UDA called Conduit Connections on the equipment we can assist the AutoPlace Conduit Tool in being able to generate multiple conduits for each voltage level at one time. We can provide the details of the conduit voltage level and diameter in the value of the UDA.

How to use the Auto Place Conduit tool for equipment with different raceway voltage connections

  1. Navigate to Raceway ribbon and in Cable tray & Conduits section click on the ‘AutoPlace Conduit’ tool.

  2. The configuration dialog will open that allows you to select the:

Offset From Raceway: Vertical distance of conduit from the raceway
Virtual Connection Length: Length of virtual connection/air gap from the Conduit to Raceway.

    Provide the desired length.

You are prompted to ‘Select Raceways to Connect
Select the Trench Routing lines and accept the selection by a left-click (Datapoint) and select the Equipment in the same way.

  3. The Raceway Properties dialog will open, Provide the desired conduit properties and Click OK.

  4. Repeat the same for all the equipment and see the results.
The AutoPlace Conduit tool will correctly connect the desired voltage level routing line of theTrench with the conduit.

  5. Observe the same results for equipment with multiple raceway layer connections.
