Background

If you need to add many cable types in your current project it's not practical to add each cable type one by one. Fortunately, Bentley Raceway and Cable Management allows you to import cable types in bulk. You can import an Excel sheet with multiple Cable Types having details like name, units, diameter and weight making it fast and efficient to add the required cable types to your projects.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch Bentley Raceway and Cable Management.
Select a WorkSpace and WorkSet and open a Raceway design file.

  2. elect the Options tool from the Manage ribbon tab and Project Setup ribbon group.

  3. Select the Cable Data tab and then select the tab Cable Types.

  4. Click Browse in the Cable type XLS file field to select a cable type XLS file.

  5. Open the project subfolder where you have stored the Excel file with the Cable Types and click Open.

  6. The selected file now appears in the Cable type XLS file field.
Select Browse in the Cable type XML file field to select a Cable type XML file.

  7. Open the file XML import file for the cable type list.
In the below image, you can see how the columns are being mapped.

  8. You can use the + button to configure the xml file settings to import from different columns in the XLS/XLSX file.

Note: With the + button, the configuration file can be modified. Here it's possible to change the assignment of a cable type property to the column in the import xls file, when you don’t use the standard form.

  9. Set Start row and End row and click Load to start the import.

  10. The Review Differences dialog opens.
All cable types have the Status Added, as they are still not part of the current dataset.
Select all cable types by clicking Select All and click Accept to accept them for the import.

  11. Click Update and then OK for the Info dialog to complete the import.

  12. Click Apply to save the imported data and click OK to close the Options tool.
