After upgrading to OpenBuildings Designer Update 9 I see an “empty” dialog box for Structural tools such as Beam or Column, as well as Compound Slab. It looks as though all catalog items are missing as shown here:
This issue was the result of the dataset getting improperly updated while upgrading to the latest version of the software. In this particular case a few delivered catalog XML filers were actually from previous versions, therefore the placement tools failed to read them properly resulting in missing catalog items.
To avoid this, when updating OpenBuildings Designer you should choose the dataset upgrade option that best suits your needs. OpenBuildings Designer offers four ways to update your configuration, the same are mentioned and described below:
Among the above four options, No action is not the best choice in this situation, as this option does not update any file in existing datasets, apart from any changes made by you.
The other options are preferable, as these updates the datasets to the latest configuration, hence we would recommend choosing any of the three depending on your scenario.
