Background

The requirement is to export the design files to the local directory in a locked state & import it back to the PW explorer. During this, no other user can access that file & can only be imported back by the user who had exported it. This wiki article explains the steps to do so.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch ProjectWise Explorer/Client CONNECT Edition

  2. Double click on the desired data source & log-in with the appropriate password as shown

  3. Expand the workspace folder & Search for the design file.

Note: the design files can be stored at any location under the project. It may vary project to project or depends on admin.

  4. Right-click on the design file & select export as shown

  5. The export wizard will open. This wizard contains two options Export & Send to Folder. Select the Export & hit next as shown

  6. Browse the desired workspace folder where the file to be exported & hit next as shown. Also, enter the export comment if needed.

  7. A warning message will pop up & ask for the overwrite as shown. This is due to the same nomenclature of files in the folder. Users can hit Yes or No as per requirement.

  8. The exporting success dialogue will pop up as shown. Hit finish to complete the action

  9. Notice that the symbol for the design file is changed if compared to step-4 as shown

  10. Once the changes are done, to import it back, right-click on the design file & select import as shown

Notice that, the import option is disabled in step-4.
  11. Enter a comment for check-in (if required) & hit ok as shown

  12. After successful import, the symbology again of the file gets changed, compared to step 9 as shown

Note: After a successful import, the files can be unlocked & accessed by the user.
