Resolving BBES Configuration write access error message

 Product(s):OpenBuildings Designer
 Version(s):CONNECT Edition
 Area:Electrical Annotation and Design

Problem Description

How can I resolve the BBES Configuration write access error shown below when loading the Electrical discipline in OpenBuildings Designer?

Steps to Accomplish

Please follow the below steps through which you can quickly resolve this BBES Configuration error message.

  1. First, navigate to your dataset folder. In this example we are using the delivered French dataset located here: “C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenBuildings CONNECT Edition\Configuration\Datasets\Dataset_FR”. Now find the Metadata and SymLibs folders used by the Electrical discipline.

  1. Then copy those two folders from your Dataset and paste them into your WorkSet's \Standards folder. In this example that folder is located here: “C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenBuildings CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Building_Examples\worksets\BuildingTemplate_FR\Standards”.

  1. Next, go back to your Dataset folder and rename the existing Metadata and SymLibs folders.

  1. Then open the workset's .cfg file using a text editor, add the variable “BBESDIR” pointing to the new location for the Metadata and SymLibs folders, and save it.

  1. Finally, after you restart OpenBuildings Designer and launch the Electrical discipline you should no longer see any error messages.
