Background

In Bentley Raceway & Cable Management, Cable Routing settings that controls the automatic selection of nearby raceway routes can be adjusted. A bounding sphere, at the equipment, is used by the automatic cable routing function to determine possible cable routes. When a raceway route intersects any part of a bounding sphere, those routes are a valid cable routing path to the equipment. Therefore, a raceway route does not necessarily need to connect directly to the equipment for the path to be consider as a valid cable routing path.

Steps To Accomplish

  1. Launch Bentley Raceway & Cable Management CONNECT Edition.
Select WorkSpace and WorkSet and open ROUTING.dgn.

  2. Click Cable Manager tool in Equipment & Cable ribbon tab, Cables ribbon group.

  3. From Manage ribbon group in the ribbon menu, Click on Collaboration Manager.

  4. In Collaboration Manager, right click, then Select All and Request lock.

  5. Cables are now loaded in the Cable Manager.

  6. In Cable Manager, select all the cables using the checkbox at the topmost row and click on Auto Connect from Cable ribbon group in the ribbon menu.

NoteThe Auto Connect function will create the orthogonal connection between the source and target equipment and populate the length field with the shortest orthogonal length.

  7. From the Cable ribbon group in the ribbon menu, Click on Auto Route.

  8. As it is evident from the example, that all the Cable Routes except the two got successful.
    Press OK and proceed.

  9. In the Cable Manager it is easy to find the reason of Automatic Routing failure from Info property column.

  10. From the Cable Manager, it is evident that the Routing Mode is Automatic Routing.
