How to Create Custom Component in OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition

In OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition, requirement is to create a new custom component.

Background

In OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition, requirement is to create a custom valve (custom ball valve). Below wiki article will explain the customization to achieve such requirement.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition in desired workset.
  2. Open a model file. Using MicroStation Base Geometry commands, draw desired graphics for custom ball valve.
  3. Once custom graphics is created, select the created graphics & click on Tools > Component as shown below.



  4. From Component Manager dialog, click on Create Components from Elements icon as shown below.



  5. From Build New Component dialog, enter Component Class Name, Display Label &
  6. Switch the Class View as Single Hierarchical. Search for Valve Cell > Expand node & select Inline Valve.
  7. Click on Next. Refer sequential bullets as shown in below image.



  8. From Build New Component dialog, select the desired Cell Libraries, here cel & select Origin option. Refer image below.



  9. Select origin point, for the custom graphics as shown below. Once done, click on Next in Build New Component.



  10. In next dialog, connect points will be defined for the custom component.
  11. Enter first connect point as CP1. Click on Add. This will add an arrowhead to mouse cursor. Select to one end of custom graphics & define the direction outside as shown below.

  12. Likewise, define CP2 & define the direction as outside for opposite end as shown below.

  13. Once connect points have been defined, click on Next in Build New Component Dialog as show below.



  14. Click on Next.
  15. From Build New Component dialog, select Valves & click on Finish as shown below.



  16. Upon finish, OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition will load dgnlib file. For Valves group, Custom BV Valve can be seen as shown below.
