In OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition, requirement is to import pipeline lists & its properties from excel file. Below wiki article will explain the procedure & key points to achieve such requirement.

Background

In OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition, to define a new pipeline we need to enter details (Plant Breakdown Structures & Properties) under Plant Breakdown Structure & Pipeline section of Standard Preference dialog, refer image below.

From OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition Update 7, new feature as Import Instances has been introduced that allows to import pipeline & its properties from three different mode of database file.Import of instances can be achieved via Excel file (*.xls, *.xlsx), Access file (*.mdb, *.accdb) & SQLite (*.db, *.db3, *. SQLite, *.sqlite3). In this wiki article, we will cover the option via excel file. In OpenPlant PID CONNECT, Import Instances button is not enabled/available by default. We need to add the button to desired group.

To perform import tag instances properly (without any issues), please note below mentioned key-points.

  1. Definition in excel file must be in proper format

Format: (Click here to download sample format)
Header must be properties of PIPING_NETWORK_SYSTEM class. One column as _ECClassFamily has been added that differentiate between the type of pipelines.
Sheet Names should be Class Name (PIPING_NETWORK_SYSTEM, PLANT_AREA etc.

Reference Image

  1. Defined line number format/name must match as per defined EC Expression.
  2. Correct parser expression must be available to exactly parse the line number (tag name)

  3. Database file must be closed at time of import tag instance operation
  4. Currently this implementation is limited to pipeline level only.
