In OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition, requirement is to import pipeline lists & its properties from excel file. Below wiki article will explain the procedure & key-points to achieve such requirement.

Background

In OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition, to define a new pipeline we need to enter details (Associations & Properties) under Create Pipeline dialog, refer image below.

From OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition Update 7, new feature as Import Tag Instances has been introduced that allows to import pipeline & its properties from three different mode of database files.Importing of tag instances can be achieved via Excel file (*.xls, *.xlsx), Access file (*.mdb, *.accdb) & SQLite (*.db, *.db3, *. SQLite, *.sqlite3). In this wiki article, we will cover the option via excel file.

To perform import tag instances properly (without any issues), please note below mentioned key-points.

  1. Definition in excel file must be in proper format.

Format (For Sample excel file, Click Here)

Header must be properties of PIPING_NETWORK_SYSTEM class
Sheet Names should be Class Name (PIPING_NETWORK_SYSTEM, PLANT_AREA etc.)

Reference Image

  1. Defined line number format must match as per defined EC Expression.

The defined ECExpression must match with parser expression.

  2. Correct parser expression must be available to exactly parse the line number (tag name)
  3. Database file must be closed at time of import tag instance operation
  4. Currently this implementation is limited to pipeline level only.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition with desired workset here OpenPlantMetric workset.
  2. Open desired model file.
  3. From Standard Preference Dialog, click on Import Tag Instances. Refer image below.

  4. From pop-up window, select the desired database file (here excel file) & click on Open.
  5. From Import Instances, we can see imported definition as shown below.
