Background

In OpenPlant Modeler, there has been a feature where a multiple Smart line placed could be converted into one Pipeline using Intelligent Line.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch OpenPlant Modeler Connect Edition.

  2. Assign Plant Associates through Standard preferences as shown below.

  3. In Common Tool group click on Place Smart line.
The displayed Icon shows smart line command and for other geometric tool click on dropdown arrow shown just besides Place Smart line

  4. Place Smartlines in working area and through Properties it can be viewed default in level and Element Description as shown below.

  5. In Piping tab select either of two Smartline placed then click on Intelligent Line in Piping Network group. Clicking on Intelligent Line launches Intelligent Line Manager as highlighted below.

Without selecting smartline Intelligent Line Manager would not be launched.

  6. Based on requirement select Standard Elbow , Pipe Bend or Trimmed elbow in Corner Option and accordingly the respective sub-option gets highlighted. In Intelligent Line category – A It can be viewed Line Number created in step 2 gets reflected in Line Number and in Component Name
Proceed to click on Generate-B. Note Populate option is disabled as of now.

Create Multiple Intelligent Lines is selected when more than one smartline need to be converted into Pipeline.

  7. Clicking on Generate Pipeline Tag Number gets assigned on to the Smartline Placed . Generate creates the intelligent centerline from the selected line segment(s). Once generated, the property values defined are assigned to the line. The intelligent line is listed in the Properties dialog under the line number it was assigned to and can be viewed on hovering on that line segment.

  8. Similarly for other Smart Line follow the procedure and can make it Intelligent Line 200 A-B-1000-mEX-OPM.

  9. Place another Smartline and connect both Intelligent Lines created in last step in as shown below.

  10. Select all three lines and Click on Intelligent Line Icon in Piping Network again.

  11. In Intelligent Line Manager it can be viewed Merge option also gets highlighted.

Proceed to click on Merge. Make sure Create Multiple Intelligent Lines are selected. In order to process multiple intelligent lines, the following properties must be the same: LineNumber, Specification, Nominal Diameter, Insulation Thickness, Insulation, State. If this option is not enabled, then one intelligent line will be created from the multiple segments, using the EC Property values from the last process line segment.

  12. The new SmartLine between two Intelligent lines get converted to single Intelligent lines with same Pipeline Tag no as defined in step-2

Click on Populate in Intelligent Line Manager.

  13. After Processing the smartlines which got converted into Intelligent Lines gets converted into Pipeline with graphics as shown in image below along with Pipeline Tag number defined A-B-1000-mEX-OPM.

  14. When selected, OpenPlant Modeler begins the process of placing components on the Intelligent  centerline using the AutoFitting method. When a branch or corner is encountered, the AutoBend and AutoTee tables are used to select the correct components to place according selections in the Corner Options section of the IL Manager. Once the line has been populated, Intelligent Line instances in the Properties dialog are replaced with the actual components that have been associated with the line as shown below.

Thus Pipeline can be created through smart line in an alternative way through Intelligent Pipeline.
