Background

Bentley Raceway and Cable Management Update 4 comes with a new automation tool named ‘Auto Place Conduit.

This tool automatically creates conduits between the equipment and either Raceway or Trench Systems.

This wiki article will provide steps to use the Auto Place Conduit tool for a Raceway system.

Steps To Accomplish

  1. Open the raceway DGN file or the file which is registered as 3D Model Raceway. Route some raceways with different voltage levels.

By referencing the raceway DGN file to the Equipment DGN file, place some equipment near to the raceway systems and back to raceway DGN file again for using AutoPlance Conduit tool.

Alternatively, you can register the test DGN file as 3D Model Equipment * Raceway and place raceway and equipment in the same file.

  1. Navigate to the Raceway ribbon tab and in Cable tray & Conduits panel click on the ‘AutoPlace Conduit’ tool.

  2. The configuration dialog will open that allows you to select the:

Offset From Raceway: Vertical distance of conduit from the raceway
Virtual Connection Length: Length of virtual connection/air gap from the Conduit to Raceway.

    Provide the desired length.

You are prompted to ‘Select Raceways to Connect
Select the raceways and accept the selection by a left-click (Datapoint)

  3. Next, you are prompted to select the equipment. Select the equipment and accept the selections.
Control + data (CTRL+left click) can be used to select multiple equipments. An Element selection fence can also be used for selection.

  4. After equipment and raceway selection, the Raceway Properties Dialog will open.
Select the desired Conduits catalog and provide the voltage level.

Note: If the voltage level selected here is not available in the raceways systems then it will not create any conduits.

  5. Conduits will be generated automatically with the specified distance and voltage levels.

  6. Notice how the software connected to the raceways that matched the selected voltage of the conduit. If your equipment requires additional conduit connections for other voltage levels you can run the tool again selecting another voltage level in the Raceway Properties dialog. Alternatively, you can assist the AutoConduit tool in generating all the conduit connections at one time by following the instructions in this article:
