Overview

The article shows how Energy Simulator can be utilised to model a Brise Soleil for your energy model.

Method

Brise Soleils are architecturally designed devices that work as a static external shading equipment for the building. OpenBuildings Energy Simulator offers the options of adding fins to the openings that replicate the functions of a Brise Soleil in an energy model. To do so:

• Go to Fins from the Data Managers Tab. 
• Setup fin data as per your project requirement. 

• Assign the fins from the Add Fin function under the Home tab. 
  
  
• Always select the bottom face of the window to assign vertical fins. For horizontal fins choose the top face of the window. 
  
  
• To replicate a Brise Soleil in your model, chose a vertical fin, with demonstrated angles and edge to edge distance as per your project requirement. 
  
  

You can assign the same in front of other openings as well. Just make sure that you are choosing the right surface before assign the fin to it.
