Overview

In OpenPlant PID Update 10, A configuration variable “BMF_ASSOCIATED_ITEM_RULE_ON_ASSEMBLY_INSERT“ is renamed to “BMF_PBS_ITEM_RULE_FOR_COMPONENTS” to allow users to maintain the Plant Breakdown Structures property values of components and assemblies that are copied to the clipboard to facilitate splitting a PID document.

This variable now works for both assemblies and items pasted from the clipboard but does not control the NUMBER property. This variable needs to be set separately and will prompt with the below dialog.

  1. Use active Plant Breakdown Structure item values – Takes the current default values specified in the Preferences dialog of the current document.

  2. Use Plant Breakdown Structure item values from original components – Takes the values from the original components or assembly instead from active Standard Preferences values

Note :- BMF_PBS_ITEM_RULE_FOR_COMPONENTS variable is set to 0 by default. Setting variable’s value in the Workset.cfg file as 2 will prompt you with a dialog when pasting from the clipboard.

In this wiki article, we will explore the implementation of variable along with the results.

Steps To Accomplish

  1. Navigate to workset level and Open workset.cfg file in Notepad or Notepad ++.

  2. Add BMF_PBS_ITEM_RULE_FOR_COMPONENTS = 2 at the end of cfg file and save the workset.cfg file.

  3. Reload OpenPlant PID CONNECT Edition and open drawing.
  4. Select components or assembly. Click on Select Parent(s) Advanced and follow the sequence as shown below.

  5. Right-click on the drawing interface and select Copy to Clipboard.

  6. Navigate to a new drawing and right-click on the drawing interface. Select Paste from Component Clipboard.

    Note :-
There should be some values in standard preferences for PBS items to the new drawing.

  7. Number Assignment dialog will appear. Select the desired option from Options. In this case, Maintain Original Number is selected.

  8. From next dialog prompt, select desired option as per the requirement. In this case “Use Active Plant Breakdown Structure Item Values

  9. Notice that for the pasted arrangement, number value has maintained as original assembly. However, for the PBS items, it picks the value from the active Standard Preferences.

  10. If in case, selected the option “Use Plant Breakdown Structure item values from original components” from Choose Plant Breakdown Structure items source components dialog box then it will retain the same PBS values from assembly.
