Background

Since IFC format is getting more common as an exchange format when projects grow and gets more complicated with multi-disciplinary designs integrated in big project.
Exchange between proprietary software is mandatory for the companies needs to meet at a common platform, like IFC.

In this article you will learn how to export Bentley Raceway and Cable Management’s file to IFC.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch CONNECTION Client and select CONNECT Center.


  2. Now select Projects from the CONNECT Center web portal.


  3. You can register a new project or select the existing project form the list.


  4. You can add the members and assign them their respective roles for the project.


  5. Select Share to create a shared folder to save your model.


  6. Select New to create a new folder.



  7. Add the files in the newly created folder.



  8. Now launch iModel Manager.



  9. Now select Create iModel to create a new iModel.


  10. Now name the iModel and other details as required.



  11. Select the iModel and select Connections from the menu.


  12. Select Create connection to create a connection between the newly created iModel and the files stored in the Share.


  13. Select the iTwin File Services and press Next.

  14. Select the models from the folder and press Next.


  15. In this step you can select the model from which you want to extract the geographic coordinate system and press Next.



  16. Select the MicroStation Connector from the menu and select Next.

     Note: Bentley Raceway and Cable Management is compatible with MicroStation Connector. Refer this link for supported applications and file formats: Link.

  17. Name the connection and schedule the automatic synchronization runs as required.
    Select Create to complete the process.


  18. Select the connection and then select Synchronize to sync the design changes from your desktop design application with an iTwin in the cloud.


  19. Synchronization will start and you can check the progress from Status.


  20. After the synchronization is done, go back to the iModel Manger and open the iModel.


  21. Select View all versions to see the list of all named versions in the iModel.


  22. Select the browse button and select Export to IFC.


  23. You can save the IFC to the existing folders in the Share, select the IFC Version and Export.

  24. Select Close and you will receive an email notification after the conversion job is completed.


  25. You can download the IFC from the Share.
