In OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition, requirement is to upgrade workspace from OpenPlant Modeler V8i version to OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition Update 7.
Background
With latest release of OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition we can see that folder structure & new definition to schemas have been implemented. If user is using older version of OpenPlant Modeler V8i generation then there must be a question that how V8i customized workspace will be used in OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT. In this wiki article, we will explore how to upgrade V8i workspace to OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition latest released version. In this wiki article OpenPlant Modeler V8i workspace is consider whose schema version is of (01.07), we will upgrade the workspace to be used in OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition Update 7. Please note that this wiki article is applicable to upcoming higher versions of OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Series as well.
Steps to Accomplish
- Launch OpenPlant Project Administrator CONNECT Edition.

- Workspace migration is a two-step process.
V8i Migrate – This operation will create folder structure of OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition & copy all the required files (e.g. dgnlib files, cel files, etc.) from workspace of OpenPlant Modeler V8i.
Schema Upgrade – Second step is schema upgrade. During this operation, it creates a change set of custom added schema customization along with out of box schemas of latest OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition.
Note: Before moving ahead, ensure to have backup of workspace of OpenPlant Modeler V8i. Make a copy of entire workspace & paste it is desired folder location. We will point the workspace folder for migration process. - From Configuration ribbon tab, click on root node of configuration. This will enable the option of V8i Migrate from Migration ribbon group. Refer image as shown below.

- Click on V8i Migrate option as shown in above image.
- From Migration wizard, click on Next as shown below.

- From Migration wizard, click on three dots defined against V8i WorkSpace. This will ask to select the workspace of OpenPlant Modeler V8i. Please pick the workspace folder using file explorer.
Note: WorkSpace folder must contain the proper folder structure as it is for OpenPlant Modeler V8i workspace. Refer image as shown below.

- From same dialog, select the desired V8i project from drop down.
- Enter desired name for workspace & workset. Also, pick the correct unit of V8i project. Refer sequential steps from below image.

- Once desired V8i project is selected, click on Next as shown in above image.
- From Migration wizard dialog, ensure to check the OpenPlant Modeler application as shown below.

Please note that up to OpenPlant Modeler V8i we don’t have concept of common workspace for multiple application. Since we are doing migration considering the workspace from V8i generation, it is advisable to pick the specific application only. Here in this case we have picked OpenPlant Modeler only. - Once OpenPlant Modeler application is checked, click on Migrate Refer above image for reference.
- Once Migrate process is executed, this will check all the required links & setup workspace (folder structure) required to be used with OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition. Refer image as shown below.

- When migration process is successfully executed, it will prompt successful message to dialog. Also, a detailed log tab is available. Click on the detailed log tab to see detailed information that has been pushed.
- Click on Finish, refer image as shown below.

- From OpenPlant Project Administrator CONNECT Edition, notice that migrated workspace starts enlisting as shown below. Also, Schema Upgrade option is enabled.
- Select the workset & select Schema Upgrade option to upgrade schema.

- Schema Upgrade process is a two-stage procedure. First stage is Analyze & second one is Upgrade. During Analyze, it detects the V8i schema version. This version will be upgraded to OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition.
- Click on Analyze. Refer image below.

- Once Analyze is completed, it will prompt to show that user configurations have been detected. Click on OK.

- After the successful Analyze, Upgrade option will be available. Click on Upgrade as shown below.

- Once schema upgrade is successfully executed, a prompt will show to review schema differencing. Click on OK.

- From WorkSet Schema Upgrade dialog, click on Close. Refer image as shown below.

- This will prompt Restart dialog to reflect the schema changes for the upgraded workset as shown below.

- Launch OpenPlant Modeler CONNECT Edition with the upgraded workspace to verify the migration & upgrade.
Note: In-depth testing must be performed on migrated workspace to ensure that all the V8i customization has been carried out successfully to OpenPlant CONNECT Edition. If there are any issues, challenges persisting, those concerns must be sorted out before using the migrated workspace in production environment.
