Problem Description

Whilst trying to view the map legend within locator, no information is displayed.  Also, the following error message is displayed within locator:

'Could not create map'

Steps to Resolve

1. The contents of the Java Console should display a 'SEVERE' error.  For further details of the error, mapviewer.log file must be examined.
2. The Mapviewer.log file will display the following error message:

XMLParseException: Whitespace required

     3.  Before this error message, there will be a block of xml which is parsed.  Copy the XML, log into the mapviewer console and paste the contents into the XML parser. 

     4. Submit the request and the same error message will be displayed.  Once you have the error, examine the XML to see if there are any additional characters.  In the example found, there was an additional double quotation mark declared against the name of the style L.EXOR.Line Duty.

     5. Log into MapBuilder and locate the style.  Copy the style and ensure there are no whitespaces in between the name, i.e. L.EXOR.Line_Duty.  Save the changes and assign the new style to the appropriate layers.  This should remove the additional quotation mark found in Step 4.

    6. Restart the MapServer.

Once restarted, launch locator and the legend will appear without any failures reported.
