Smart client fails to launch or crashes without an error log entry

Problem Description

User smart client fails to launch but smart client / application server are running and there are no errors in the error log attributed to the user who errored.

Solution

User instance was installed as a Network Service. The ProgramData\Bentley\Ivara EXP\Logs folder permissions were set to read only for all users, thus the Network Service user was not permitted to update/modify the error log.

Update the folder permissions for all Users of for the Network Service user to full control or to allow read, write and modify.

Note - in cases where this is found, it is good for the user to review all other ProgramData\Bentley sub-folders for the correct permissions. The Remote service, Server Manager, et al, may not have the right permissions to update download packages, deploy smart clients, etc.
