Background

If you are looking for a fast and easy way to define raceway systems you can take advantage of the Raceway Generator tool which can convert SmartLines and Arcs into actual raceway systems.

You can create a separate raceway drawing with smart lines or arcs placed where the raceway system is needed to be drafted or you can work in the main raceway drawing. This drawing can be used as a reference by other users, and with the help of the Raceway Generator tool and Raceway Property tool, a raceway system can be automatically generated that follows the path of the SmartLines and arcs.

The Raceway Generator tool can dramatically reduce the design efforts and time spent on the project.

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch Bentley Raceway & Cable Management CONNECT Edition. Select a WorkSpace and WorkSet and open any DGN registered as a 3D Model, Raceway file.


  2. Navigate to the Place SmartLine tool from the Common Tools ribbon group.




  3. A place SmartLine settings dialog will open, you can change the settings as required.




  4. Draw a SmartLine or an Arc as per the design requirements.



    Note: From the AccuDraw input focus, the design dimension and raceway elevation and angles can be set.

  5. Open the main raceway DGN file.



  6. Attach RW_Line.dgn DGN file as a reference file where we have drawn smartlines and arcs to convert it into Raceway so that you can keep your Raceway drawing DGN file separately.









  7. Select the lines that represent a raceway layout and then select the raceway generator tool from the raceway tab and click anywhere on the screen.



  8. The Raceway Properties dialog will open. You can specify the raceway systems, voltage level, cable laying method and other properties as required.

  9. From the preferences tab, you can also change the fittings for bends, crossovers and tees as per the design requirements.



  10. Here you can see the raceway got generated automatically according to the desired properties and preferences. The Raceway Generator tool is not just limited to SmartLine, we can generate raceway systems for arcs as well.



  11. You can control the accuracy with which the Raceway Generator follows arcs by adjusting the Arch conversion straight fittings maximum  setting as per your requirement in the Raceway Generator tool. In the Raceway Properties dialog, select the Arch conversion straight fittings maximum toggle and assign the maximum number of straight fittings that will be used to represent the arc. Click OK.



  12. A new raceway system that follows the Arc will be generated as per assigned properties and maximum straight fittings.
