People sometimes choose the wrong option when going through the activation process
- Go through complete activation process with the user (see below)
- If possible, do a remote session to see the exact software name and version number installed
- Check that user goes through all steps below
- Check the Activation Status
Basic SELECT activation steps: you can send this to users
1.Your computer will need to be connected to the internet during this process- Server name should fill in automatically (as selectserver.bentley.com)
- Paste your Site Activation key in the appropriate field.
NOTE: Make sure no spaces have been entered at the end of the Activation Key. It will not read correctly if there are.
6. If you are connecting through a proxy server, click “Proxy” box, otherwise go to next step.
A “Proxy Configuration” box will appear. Fill in the proxy server name.
If necessary, click the box next to “Proxy server requires authentication”. This will allow you to fill in the User Name and Password for the proxy server.
-You will need to know the proxy servers name, and if required, your username and password for the proxy server
-If you do not know your proxy configuration settings, or whether you have a Proxy server, contact your IT department
7. Click “Test Connection Box”, you should get a notification that “SELECTserver and Activation Key verified”, click OK. If you do not get this notification, or get an error message, check the activation key for errors and check that your computer is connected to the internet.
8. On versions 08.11 and above, you will get a “Country of Use” screen.
Use the dropdown box to select the “Country of Use” and click Next.
9. You may then get a “License Checkout” screen.
You do not need to fill in this information unless you want to check out your license to this particular computer (for example if the computer will be disconnected from the Internet for at least a month).
10. Please note that doing a check out will block the license for this computer only.
If you do not wish to do a check out, leave information blank and click Next.
11. If you want to check out the license to this computer, fill in your email address, use the dropdown to select the product, and fill in the exact product version number. Click Next.
- You can find the version number of the software Typically from within the application (Help -> About) or in the Control Panel (either under “Add or Remove Programs”, or “Programs and Features”)
12. Verify that the selections are correct in the activation summary, and click “Finish”
13. Check the Activation Status for the software in the License Management tool
- For new versions: License Management tool > Activation Status tab
- On older versions: License Management tools > Tools > Activation Status
- The status should be "Activated"

13.Activation is being attempted for wrong product
14.Activation key has not been received / has been lost
15.Activation key is faulty
16.Computer cannot communicate correctly with Bentley server (Activation Key does not verify)
17.Incorrect activation entry to the Registry
18.User wants list of licenses associated to his/her account
