SELECT Activation process for a machine NOT connected to the internet
- If user's computer is not connected to the internet, they will need to get a XML license file to do the activation process. They can get this file either directly from his Site Administrator, or they will have to ask their site admin to request it from the Bentley LICENSING team.
- If someone has Site Administrator or License Manager rights, they can create an XML license file for one of his colleagues working on an unconnected computer, via the SELECTserver Administration page.
- Creating an XML file via the SELECTserver Administration page, and importing it on the client machine
(you can send this to Site Administrators).
1. In order to do this procedure, your computer will need to be connected to the internet and you will need your Bentley Login. You will also need the computer name for which you are creating the License, and the exact version number of the software.
2. Use your Bentley login (Username + Password) to access your SELECTserver Admin page:

3. In the menu click on License Management > License Checkout.
4. A list of products will appear, select the software for which you want to create an XML license file, then click "Next".
5. You will then be asked to enter the user's computer name, User's name, User's email address, and version number of the software, then click OK.
6. You will then be able to download the XML file you have just created for your user. Click "Download" and save the file.
7. Send the XML file to the unconnected computer or import it via a USB key.
8. Now from the client (unconnected) computer, open the License Management Tool:
- From MicroStation/PowerDraft: Open any file, then go to Utilities > License Management Tool
- Or from Windows Start Icon > Programs > Bentley > Name of Bentley software > License Management Tool
9. Select Tools > Product Activation Wizard.
10. A dialog opens with 4 options. Choose “NON-SELECT or Node Locked user”, then click Next.
11. Choose “I have a license file ready to import”, click Next.
12. Click “Browse” and navigate to the saved XML file, click Next.
13. You will get a summary of your activation information, click Finish, then Close.
14. Check the Activation Status for the software (License Management tool > Activation Status tab, or on older versions: License Management tools > Tools > Activation Status)
The status should be "Checked Out - Expires in XXX days".
- The Site administrator may prefer to request a XML license file from the Licensing team. If so, transfer call to the appropriate language analyst in the FinOps Licensing Workgroup in I3.
- If nobody is available, create a new Service Ticket with the following information:
- For any language other than English, Indicate language in Capital Letters in ticket description.
- Explain that user needs a XML license file for his product.
- Indicate Software name and exact version number needed.
- Indicate computer name.
- Change language field to appropriate language. - Give the user the Service Ticket number.
- For the languages covered by FinOps Licensing Team, move ticket to QTSGLICENSING.
For other languages, translate and elevate ticket to QTSGLICENSING.
