Introduction to Bentley Licensing
gINT will no longer be using Sentinel for securing and licensing of modules. Bentley License Manager (LM) and SELECTserver will be used. This takes two forms:
- Node Locked licensing - Used for stand alone license installations.
- SELECTserver licensing - This replaces the network licenses and is supplied with any SELECT Agreement, Bentley's software maintenance program. Note: It is possible to have Node Locked licenses under the SELECT Agreement but you cannot have a SELECTserver license manager without having a SELECT Agreement.
There are many similarities between Sentinel and Bentley licensing functionality, and in the following pages each of the major functions will be compared and contrasted.
Changes to the gINT Licensing Model
Since moving to the Bentley Licensing Model there have been several changes made to the way gINT licensing is sold and works. The main differences are:
- gINT is no longer sold with Sentinel Hardware keys or software licensing.
- Dongles are no longer used as a way of securing gINT.
More detailed information regarding licensing specifics are available from your Account Manager.
How to install a node-locked gINT license
In order to install a Node Locked license the following is needed:
- Any necessary installation software can be downloaded from the Software Downloads link in CONNECT Center.
- An activation key from the Bentley Administration Center (BAC).
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 7 64-bit are the supported operating systems for gINT.
- See steps below for removal of old gINT versions prior to install.
How to install SELECTserver
In order to install SELECTserver the following is needed:
- SELECTserver installation software, which is in the form of a self-extracting zip file and found on Software Downloads.
- An activation key from the Bentley Administration Center (BAC).
- TCP/IP protocol installed on the proposed SELECTserver and client machines.
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 7 64-bit are the supported operating systems for gINT.
A. If you are an existing gINT V8 client and are switching to SELECT Licensing
1. For a computer that already has gINT installed and is licensed with a single user software license:
a. Open gINT goto HELP….Licensing…License information…choose deactivate/unlicense. Call gINT at 707-284-2200 to deactivate the license.
b. Uninstall all gINT programs through Control Panel …Add/Remove programs. There may be 2 or 3 depending upon what version of gINT have installed on your computer.
c. Download the current version of gINT from SELECTservices at Software Downloads in CONNECT Center
i. Log in with User Name and Password
ii. In the SEARCH BY section, Select PRODUCT. Choose gINT from the PRODUCT dropdown and click SEARCH
iii. Check gINT (Logs, Professional, Professional Plus, CLT) box and click the CONTINUE button.
iv. Select DOWNLOAD and click the CONTINUE button
v. Click the ACCEPT button
vi. Click the DOWNLOAD button to start the download
d. Install the file that you downloaded. (Make sure you are logged in as the admin of the machine) Select the gINT product you are licensed for (Logs, Professional or Professional Plus).
e. Open gINT. The Activation Wizard will also open.
f. In the Activation Wizard, select the appropriate server configuration (node locked, hosted, or deployed). Type in your site ID and activation code that was provided by Bentley Administration Center (BAC).
2. For a computer that already has gINT installed and is licensed with a USB Hardware key license:
a. Uninstall all gINT programs through Control Panel …Add/Remove programs. There may be 2 or 3 depending upon what version of gINT have installed on your computer.
b. Download the current version of gINT from SELECTservices at Software Downloads in CONNECT Center
i. Log in with User Name and Password
ii. In the SEARCH BY section, Select PRODUCT. Choose gINT from the PRODUCT dropdown and click SEARCH
iii. Check gINT (Logs, Professional, Professional Plus, CLT) box and click the CONTINUE button.
iv. Select DOWNLOAD and click the CONTINUE button
v. Click the ACCEPT button
vi. Click the DOWNLOAD button to start the download
c. Install the file that you downloaded. (Make sure you are logged in as the admin of the machine) Select the gINT product you are licensed for (Logs, Professional or Professional Plus).
d. Open gINT. The Activation Wizard will also open.
e. In the Activation Wizard, select the appropriate server configuration (node locked, hosted, or deployed). Type in your site ID and activation code that was provided by Bentley Administration Center (BAC).
3. For a computer that has never had gINT installed:
a. Download the current version of gINT from SELECTservices at Software Downloads in CONNECT Center
i. Log in with User Name and Password
ii. In the SEARCH BY section, Select PRODUCT. Choose gINT from the PRODUCT dropdown and click SEARCH
iii. Check gINT (Logs, Professional, Professional Plus, CLT) box and click the CONTINUE button.
iv. Select DOWNLOAD and click the CONTINUE button

B. If you are a new gINT V8 client and have never had gINT in your office

v. Click the ACCEPT button
vi. Click the DOWNLOAD button to start the download
b. Install the file that you downloaded. (Make sure you are logged in as the admin of the machine) Select the gINT product you are licensed for (Logs, Professional or Professional Plus).
