What are the major objectives for Users to apply PDx Dynamic Review Service?

The objectives will vary depending on the required use by users.  The major capabilities include:

  • Review  workflows - exposes the complete data used in PDS, not just the subset that is available via the DGN / DRV methods.
  • Convert PDS into an ISO 15926 deliverable.  Deliver PDS in a neutral format for others
  • Maintain models and data from PDS in Bentley’s OpenPlant, which is our next generation of PlantSpace. Based on MicroStation and ProjectWise, OpenPlant works natively in an ISO 15926 format
  • Creation of i-models that can be used by OpenPlant Isometrics Manager to create piping isometrics
  • Create i-models that can be used by Bentley Navigator for design reviews

What kinds of work, production and data conversion is available in PDx Dynamic Review Service?

  • Review,
  • Plotting,
  • 3D PDF file creation,
  • ProjectWise Integration,
  • ISO 15926 conversion,
  • Conversion to OpenPlant

What are the software prerequisites to use ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service?

ProjectWsie Integration Server, ProjectWise Automation Services and Orchestration Framework are used to automate the conversion of PDS models and to manage the i-models and V8i files that are created.

Can we browse ortho and iso drawings made in PDS through the PDx Dynamic Review Service?

The deliverable from PDx is a MicroStation V8i file and/or an i-model, so you will have no issues viewing these in MicroStation V8i or Bentley Navigator.  The ISOGEN deliverable drawings are what we would refer to as a "non-intelligent" Drawing, as there is no data linked between the drawing file and any components in the PDS model.

PDx Manager is a link between the model components and the associated records in the PDS Database.  Anywhere you have those links established, as in the PDS 3D Models, you will have access via PDx as well.

How does ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service store data into ProjectWise or ProjectWise Lifecycle Server?

PDx Dynamic Review Service  will allow you to take advantage of all of the utilities inside of ProjectWise including the ability to automatically create V8i models and i-models from PDS, publishing into ProjectWise, associate review workflows, create multiple versions and difference between two versions.

What is the relationship between ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service and OpenPlant Modeler?

PDx Dynamic Review Service is the first step in a migration from PDS to OpenPlant.  The user has the ability to transition a full fidelity model, graphics and data, into an ISO 15926 format that can be appended into OpenPlant Modelserver.  Once the graphics / data has been appended into OpenPlant Modelserver, the user will be able to use OpenPlant Isometric Manager to create ISO’s, Components can be checked out into OpenPlant Modeler for use in design sessions.

Can I export data to AutoPIPE, STAAD, or Ceaser II from PDS using ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service?

By creating an i-model from a PDx session a user could then create a PCF from OpenPlant Isometrics Manager that could be used as an import file to Caesar II.

We are also creating tools to create a PXF file that would be the input file to AutoPIPE.

PDx Dynamic Review Services does not read FrameWorks Plus data, as it is held outside of the PDS database, therefore it cannot be used to create an input file for STAAD.

Can a User change data in ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service and update the PDS model?

No, it is not the intention to provide tools to write back changes to PDS.

Can I create isometrics directly from OpenPlant Modeler?

No, Isometric creation is done through the OpenPlant Isometrics Manager tools. This allows non-piping (lower cost) project participants to produce isometrics.

Also this provides and opportunity to creat piping isometrics from other plant design toolset via i-models.

Can I check PDS models for interference that have been converted by ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service?

Yes, the resulting V8i or i-model files created can be used to do interference detction in ProjectWsie Navigator or OpenPlant Modeler.

Why do I need ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service when I can already review PDS models in Bentley Navigator?

The interface that is available via Bentley Navigator relies on the DGN / DRV combination of files to be available, then using a JClass Library to expose the limited data in the DRV text file.  You must also keep the files in the V7 mode, plus the associated DRV file.

PDx Dynamic Review Service exposes all of the PDS Data attributes, including any custom attributes the user may have added.

Can I connect to other plant design systems using ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service?

The name PDx was chosen partly to keep the door open to interface with other systems, however none have been developed to date.  Today, the only interface is to PDS, with no others in development.

As Bentley is a strong proponent of open systems we are working closely with Fiatech members on reading from and writing to iRING from our tools. We hope that other software vendors will also do this which will rmove the requirement to have a tool like PDx.

If I attach a reference file to a ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service V8i file, what happens when I reopen the file later?

If you execute a "Save-As" to a V8i file, the attached reference files will still be there.  If you are only opening the V7 model in V8i, which is basically reading the V7 model into V8i memory, then anything done to this file will be lost once the file is closed as we will not be writing back tot he V7 model any changes.  It is READ ONLY to the V7 model.

Which versions of PDS does ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service support?

PDx Dynamic Review Service was developed and tested based on PDS 7.1 and has been tested on subsequent release versions of PDS.  Having said that we have had some experience of converting models that were designed as far back as 1995 using PDS.

If I update my PDS models, do I need to rerun ProjectWise PDx Dynamic Review Service?

PDx Dynamic Review Service can be configured to create new V8i and i-model files when changes to the PDS model are done. This would require that the PDS models are managed by ProjectWise Integration Server.
