Problem

How do I morph one element into other in storm-sewer products e.g. manholes into catchbasins, in batch (many at once)?

Solution

If you're using V8i SELECTseries 5 (08.11.05.58) or higher (including CONNECT Edition), use the Batch Morph tool located under the Tools menu.

For earlier versions: there are a couple of cases which can be considered;

  1. You want to convert all the manholes into catchbasins.
  2. You want to convert selected number of manholes into catchbasins.

Here is the workaround for doing that.

Considering case 1 – converting all manholes into catchbasins.

  1. Select all the manholes which you want to morph into Catchbasins by going to Edit>Select by Element >Manhole>Right click>Create selection set (so you can get back to that selection later).
  2. With the Manholes selected, right-click >Edit Group>Manhole Table.
  3. Add the desired columns like x & y co-ordinates column & Label column to flex table by editing and export to shapefile name, it as e.g. "catchbasins.shp". (Keep the Manhole FlexTable open for Step 5).
  4. Open a Conduit FlexTables, include the StartNode and StopNode columns, and export to shapefile (e.g. "conduits.shp").
  5. Relabel your Manholes (so that your catchbasins will not have duplicate labels).
  6. Use ModelBuilder to import the "catchbasins.shp" shapefile as Catchbasins.
  7. Use ModelBuilder to import the Conduits (to reconnect the conduits to the Catchbasins).
  8. Select the Manholes (e.g. using the Selection Set from Step 1) and Delete.

Considering case 2 – converting selected number of manholes into catchbasins.

  1. Select only those manholes which you want to morph into Catchbasins>Right click>Create selection set (so you can get back to that selection later).
  2. Steps 2 to 8 are same as above.
