The following error is generated when trying to install WaterCAD or WaterGEMS: "Error opening installation log file. Verify specified log file exists and is writeable."
The log file referenced by the error message is automatically generated when the setup .MSI file is run by Windows Installer. If Windows Installer has difficulties with that part of the setup, it can sometimes be worked around by running the setup.msi file manually.
To do this, you will need to extract the file from the installation .EXE file. The installation file is a self-extracting zip file, and the files within can be extracted by compression programs, like 7zip and Winzip.
To extract the files, right-click on the .EXE file. The next step will depend on the compression program you use to extract the files. You can choose "Extract to..." or you may need to select "7zip" or "Winzip" before extracting the files. Once the files are extracted, run the file "setup.msi" and see if that allows you to successfully start the installation.
Note that this is a rare issue and may not impact multiple machines in a single office. You may also want to have your IT professional look into Windows Installer to assure there is no issue there.
