Problem

I need to present model results to another agency or reviewer with latitude and longitude included, so that results such as hydrant flow tests and node pressures can be looked up on a map.

Solution

Currently, the OpenFlows products are only aware of X and Y coordinate for spatial location. Latitude and Longitude are angular units of a geographic coordinate system, so a conversion process would be required to determine the latitude and longitude based on the node X and Y and the coordinate system of the model.

Additionally, the X and Y coordinates of your model may be based upon a specific datum/spatial reference system, which you would need to determine first in order to correctly convert to latitude and longitude.

See the following article as an example, for information on converting between X and Y and latitude/longitude: http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong-gridref.html

If there are only a relatively small number of nodes that you need to report the latitude and longitude of, consider adding a Bing Map background. Use the 3-point option to align the map with the model, then cross reference between the model and maps.bing.com to retrieve the latitude and longitude for a specific location,
