Problem
How can I change (customize) the appearance of a profile in the Transient Results Viewer in HAMMER?
Solution
After computing the model, open a profile in the Transient Results Viewer. Then go to the Settings button and chose Profile Options.
This enables you to change:
- Animation frequency
- Line width
- Enable/disable annotations
- Customize the title
- Change the print scale
- Show/hide the different lines
- Change the line colors
- Change annotation color
After making the changes, select "Apply" and "OK". The appearance of the profile will then be changed to match the new settings. Next, select the Settings button again and chose "Save as Default Profile Settings." Be sure to save the project as well, or the default settings will not take.
Now when opening a new or existing model, and then opening a profile, you can apply the settings by going to the Settings button and choosing "Apply Default Settings." The profile will then change to display the defaults set up earlier.
The new profile settings will not automatically be displayed. Only after selecting "Apply Default Settings" will make the change. However, after saving the project, it should remain with these settings thereafter.
Note that there is a file that should be updated with you save the default settings. If you browse to C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Bentley\HAMMER\10 (or 8)\TransientResultsViewerProfileSettings.xml, you should see that the file is updated to the date that you saved the file.
Element Label Visibility
When viewing a long profile with many elements, it can sometimes be difficult to see element labels when zoomed out. For example in the below example, the labels at the bottom are crowded together:
If you want to hide the bottom axis labels, click the Settings button and uncheck "Show Annotations".
In version 26.00.00.XXX and higher, this is improved. Labels are zoom-independent (GIS style) and stay the same size when zooming in:
Chart options / Axis Scale
In version 10.03.00.69 and higher, customization of the transient profile chart options (as seen in graphs and other places) including the ability to customize the X and Y axis scale is not available. This may be a concern for example if you need to set the same Y axis scale for multiple profiles so that they are comparable.
Here are some options to consider:
- In version 26.00.00.XXX and higher, use the "Export" button in the Profiles tab of the Transient Results Viewer, to export one or more transient profiles to CSV format, then use Excel (for example) to manipulate the data and present it how you need.
- In older versions, the Data tab of the profile can be used to copy/paste the values to Excel to generate the desired plots. Custom Reports can also be considered.
- Use the export to DXF button at the top of the profile to export to DXF format, then manipulate as needed in an external application.
