Hydraulic grade line in a profile is below the invert of a conduit or channel

Area: Output and Results

Problem

The hydraulic grade line in the profile is showing up as if it is in reverse order (flipped around), causing one end to be below a conduit or channel.

Solution

This has been known to occur as of version 10.04.00.108 (reference # 1356030 / 1361640) due to conduits or channels with a negative slope, due to being drawn in reverse order (with respect to the Start Node and Stop Node designation). Follow these steps to correct the order:

1)  Go to View > Queries and create a new project query by right clicking on Query- project > New > Query > Conduits. You’ll make a query based on the Slope(Calculated) property and the dialog box in the query manager should read as follows “DerivedLinkResults_Slope < 0”. This will select all conduits that have a negative slope.

2)  Go to View > Network Navigator and click on the “ > ” icon. From the menu select the name of the query you just created in step 1.

3)  On the network navigator window select the icon that looks like a pencil and this will highlight all the conduits in your drawing that have a negative slope.

4)  Right click on each conduit individually and select the “Reverse” option.

If this occurs for many pipes, see below article:

You should also make sure you have the latest patch set applied to your software. You can download it using these instructions.

What if the conduit slope is positive and this still happens?

This has been noted in some profiles where the start and stop nodes and the slopes are correct. In such cases, this has been known to occur only in the first timestep, and advancing the profile to the next time step may show the hydraulic grade line in the profile correctly.
