Couple a CivilStorm/SewerGEMS with Open channels to OpenFlows FLOOD

Product(s):OpenFlows FLOOD
Version(s):

10.02.01.01 and 10.03.01.01

Background

This article describes the steps to couple a hydraulic model that contains open channel elements to OpenFlows FLOOD. The OpenFlows FLOOD coupler tool generates 4 output files that represent the connection between the stormwater 1D model and its surface for the 2D calculations, and each file needs to be referenced inside the simulation run to complete the connection.

This article only details a connection run example and how to set up each output file inside the simulation. To know the rest of the modeling set up, such as the simulation set up, DTM creation, time series report configuration and etc, please see our learning resources listed in the “See Also” section.

Procedure

 It´s assumed that user already has setup a simulation and already created a DTM Grid Data to start running the connection tool.

Running the tool “Connect SewerGEMS model to MOHID Land”, select the DTM and the Hydraulic Model (.stsw) to be coupled.

This tool will generate the 4 auxiliary files that build the integration between the hydraulic model elements and the surface:

After defining the path to save each file, run the tool to generate the Output files.

Next step is to set the path to each file in the simulation modules configuration.

The New DTM file (File #3) is referenced in the Domain’s properties or directly in the Simulation’s properties.

The File #1 is selected in the Stormwater module (Stormwater model file):

The other files (#2 and #4) are selected in the Runoff modules as shown below:

The video below presents the application of the Connection tool and how to set these files in the simulation modules:
