What is the difference between the Database Login and the HoleBASE SI login?

Question

What is the difference between the Database Login and the HoleBASE SI login?

Answer

There are 2 different logins required for logging into HoleBASE SI; the SQL Server User login and the HoleBASE SI User Account login. A general user may never actually know that they need a SQL Server login as this may have been setup for them.

Explanation

SQL Server Login

When logging into HoleBASE SI for the first time and setting up the database connection, the program will ask for a database username and password. This is actually the password for the database user. As HoleBASE SI uses a database technology called SQL Server which requires for all access to be conducted by known users, a user must be avaliable for this connection. A database user will be needed for either creating a new database, or for connecting to an existing one.

For users within larger organisations, they may need to connect through to an existing SQL Server, with user accounts already defined. In this case, contact the administrator of the server for details of a user with the relevant access for the database. For further information, please see our article on installing SQL Server.

Administration for this can be cut down by copying a configuration file from an already working machine to a new one. This can mean that a user will never even need to know that they require a database connection. For more information on copying a configuration file, please see the following article.

HoleBASE SI Login

This is the login details for the HoleBASE SI database itself. For further information, see our article on details about the default password for HoleBASE SI.
