How To Transfer Geology Codes from HoleBASE 3.1 to SI

Explanation

Geology Code definitions are generally transferred within the ABBR table of AGS files for project data. However, this does not leave a method of transferring the coporate Geology Codes which may have been defined at system level.

Process

The following method can be used to take the codes from an existing HoleBASE 3.1 system and subsequently import into HoleBASE SI.

1. Login into to HoleBASE 3.1 (under a System Manager account is user accounts are in use).

2. Go to 'System | Command Console'.

3. Set the 'Current Table' to "PICKLIST":

4. Click the button to 'Copy to Clipboard'.

5. Open Excel and 'Paste' into a new spreadsheet. The entire contents of the PICKLIST table will appear:

6. Only rows marked as "GEOL_GEOL" under the column headed 'Abbr_hdng' are required - delete the other rows from the spreadsheet:

Note that a similar method can be employed to transfer other picklist items. If this is the case it may be more convenient to cut and paste the GEOL_GEOL items (or those for the required table) into a seperate sheet and work with them there.

7. A clean up routine is required to remove any trailing white space from the values. To do this go to a new sheet within the workbook and add two column headers with the names "Value" and "Description" respectively:

8. Use the Excel TRIM function in the first of the cells in the newly headed 'Value' column to reference the first of the cells in the 'Abbr_code' column. Then apply the TRIM function to each of the cells under the 'Value' and 'Desciption' columns. Hint: only apply the function to the rows which contain data to avoid blank picklist entries being created.

9. Ensuring that the sheet you have been working on is the only one current selected perform a 'Save As' to 'Other Formats'. Set the 'Save as type' to "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)" and name as required (e.g. "Geology Codes.csv").

10. Confirm the statement that only currently active sheets will be converted if it appears.

11. If a statement appears stating that there are "features that are not compatible with CSV" appears click 'Yes'.

12. Save the file in a location where it can be easily found later. Consider opening the file in 'Notepad' to confirm the results - it should appear similar to the example below:

13. Run HoleBASE SI and login under an administrator account.

14. Without opening a project go to 'System | Configuration Packs'.

15. Select the Configuration Pack you would like the Geology Codes to be present within.

16. Click the 'Picklists' button.

17. In the interface which opens select 'Stratum Details - Geology Code' and click the 'Edit' button:

18. Click the button to 'Import CSV'. Browse to the .csv file you created earlier.

19. The list of available Geology Codes will now update:

20. Click 'Save' to commit the changes.

Note that if is similar method is employed to update other picklists the correct grid name should be specified under step 17.
