How to Add Custom Hatches

Question

How do I add custom hatches to the HoleBASE SI Extension for AutoCAD Civil 3D?

Answer

If you wish to import custom hatch in to Civils for use with the Extension please follow the instructions below;

Copy your hatch pattern PAT file(s) into the default location that AutoCAD uses to find hatch patterns. The default path is specified in the Options dialogueue box: Options dialog > Files tab > Support File Search Path but will be similar to this;

C:\Users\*****username*****\appdata\roaming\autodesk\****ACAD Version****\enu\support\

The hatches will show up under the Custom hatch menu in AutoCAD.

Editing using Notepad

Alternatively, you can edit the default PAT files that are installed with AutoCAD by using Notepad and adding your custom hatch pattern data at the end of the file.

There are two files: acad.pat and acadiso.pat, which are located as noted above. Although line spaces are not required between hatch patterns pasted into the file, a blank line must be placed after the last hatch pattern definition in a PAT file. If a blank line is not placed after the last hatch pattern definition, the last hatch pattern definition will not be accessible when you use the hatch pattern file. You can add comments by preceding text with two semicolons ( ;; ).

Following this you can then access the HBSI Civils Extension, open a project and go to the "hatch" option. You then need to look at each of your legend codes and assign your custom hatch to the legend codes.

In the image above you can see that for code "102" that the first hatch used is "SOLID". If solid is at the top of the list like in the image then the hatch that shows will be solid. If you wish for the pattern to show you need to move "SOLID" down in the list like the image below or remove it completely;
