Once the installation process has been completed KeyLAB2 will be installed on the local workstation. However, a connection must be established to an underlying database, this provides a repository for the data. Should no existing KeyLAB2 database exist it will be necessary to configure one; please see the installation notes for more information.
Connecting to an Existing System
KeyLAB projectsUsers of the original KeyLAB should be aware that it is not possible to import projects from the legacy system into KeyLAB2. It may be preferable to run KeyLAB and KeyLAB2 alongside one another for a transitional period. Note the test sheets from the original system can be converted for use with KeyLAB2 although the cells within will have to be defined manually. |
A new installation can be linked to an existing KeyLAB2 system from Connection | Connect.
Click Add and define the required details:
Supported Database systemsThe following are both suitable systems for the underlying KeyLAB2 database -Microsoft SQL server 2008,2012 and 2014 (recommended). |
Once defined, the new connection is then listed in the Connect view.
From here the connections can be managed. Note that it is possible to use this interface to connect to a different database.
Managing ConnectionsThe vast majority of users will use the Connect interface to establish a connection to an existing database. Once such a connection has been established these users are unlikely to need to revise these settings in the future. As such, the Set as default option should be ticked once the correct connection has been established. The interface does allow multiple connections to be configured if desired. It should be noted that such a practice is rare and likely only to arise in response to certain specific circumstances. |
