We will convert a standard 8.5x11 landscape fence report to 11x17 size, also in landscape. The same principles apply for converting to other sizes and shapes.
The first step is to determine the measurements of the current report, and see how these are determined by the margin and frame settings. Then you lay out the new report, determine the measurements you want to use, and create a new version of the report using these.
Note: This exercise requires the use of the training.GPJ project and the training.GLB library available from: communities.bentley.com/.../download.aspx. Instructions for unzipping and setting up these files is on: communities.bentley.com/.../using-gint-downloaded-examples.aspx.
Do the following:
If you have access to a printer, go to OUTPUT->Fences, select ‘SIMPLE FENCE’ (or ‘FINAL SIMPLE FENCE’), and print it.
Go to REPORT DESIGN->Fences and select ‘SIMPLE FENCE’ (or ‘FINAL SIMPLE FENCE’). Click the Properties icon.
Make note of the Left Margin and Bottom Margin values in the Main tab, and Frame X, Frame Y, Frame Width and Frame Height values in the Data Frame tab. If you have a printout, you can optionally draw these measurements on the report, as shown:
If you have a blank sheet of 11x17 paper, rough out the border and frame dimensions you want to use for the 11x17 report. We’ll use the following:
Select File->Copy Page, specify a Name of ‘SIMPLE 11x7 FENCE’, and click OK.
Select File->Set Printer For Reports. Ensure that a printer is selected that supports printing to11x17 (ledger-size) paper, then click OK.
Select the Settings menu, and ensure that the Paper Outlines option is checked.
In the General tab, change Page Size to ‘Ledger’, ‘11x17’, or equivalent.
In the Data Frame tabs, enter the following values, then click OK.
Field Name | Tab | Value |
Frame Width | Data Frame | 14.75 |
Frame Height | Data Frame | 8 |
We are leaving the Left Margin, Bottom Margin, Frame X and Frame Y values unchanged from their settings in SIMPLE FENCE.
Notice that the inserted block does not match the new outlines. We will create a modified version of this block.
Hold down the Alt key and click on the block insert for the TITLE LANDSCAPE block. The block opens in DRAWINGS->Drawing Library.
Select File->Copy Page, enter a Name of ‘TITLE LANDSCAPE 11X17’, and click OK.
Select File->Select Printer for Report, ensure that a printer that will print ledger-size is selected, and click OK.
Click the Properties icon. Change the Page Size to ‘Ledger’ (or equivalent) and click OK. The page outlines are redrawn.
Double-click on the right edge of the black, solid line, rectangular border. The POLYLINE PROPERTIES dialog box opens.
Click the Expand button to the right of the Coordinates property.
Change the two ‘10.16’ X values to ‘16’, and the two Y ‘7.6’ values to ‘10’, then click OK.
Click OK to close the POLYLINE PROPERTIES window. Notice that the border is now consistent with the new size, but other entities aren't.
Double-click on the horizontal line that normally separates the heading from the body. Click the Expand button to the right of Coordinates, replace the ‘10.15’ X value with ‘16’ and the two ‘6.5’ Y values with ‘8.9’, then click OK. This places the line in the desired location.
Double-click the red COMPANY INFORMATION block insert. Change the Offset Y value to ‘9.655’. This moves the COMPANY INFORMATION block up by 2.4" in the current drawing.
Select Modify->Offset Move. Select the four header text entities (CLIENT, PROJECT NUMBER, PROJECT NAME, PROJECT LOCATION), enter ‘0, 2.4’ in the Change X,Y box at lower right, then click the OK button above this box.
Press Esc to clear the Modify Offset command mode. This completes the changes to the TITLE LANDSCAPE 11X17 block.
Go to REPORT DESIGN->Fences.
Click on the TITLE LANDSCAPE block insert to highlight it, then press Delete. The TITLE LANDSCAPE block is removed from the report.
Select Blocks->Insert Block. Click the Expand button to the right of Block Source, select a Type of ‘DWGLIB’ and a Block of ‘TITLE LANDSCAPE 11X17’. Click OK to close the Block Source dialog box.
Change the Offset X and Offset Y values to ‘0’, then click OK. Move the block insert with the mouse to a position just to the left of the report, and click to finalize its location. The block is now inserted.
Double-click the SUBSURFACE DIAGRAM text block. Change X to ’15.9’ and Y to ‘9.95’, then click OK.
Double-click the ‘Elevation (ft)’ text block along the left edge. Change Y to ‘4.5’ and click OK.
Double-click the ‘Distance Along Baseline (ft)’ text block. Change X to ‘8’ and click OK. This completes the report design.
In the Source File field, select training.gpj.
Close the preview.
