Alternate method to change element attributes
Rather than selecting the Change Element Attributes tool to change the level, colour, weight and style of an element - try this alternate workflow: Select the element(s) with the Element Selection tool. Now just select the new element symbology from the Attributes tool box. Note, this method does not work for changing the Element Class from the Attributes tool box.
