PLAXIS 3D 2026.1 (26.1.0.211) contains the following improvements and updates compared to PLAXIS 3D 2025.1:
New default embedded beam behaviour with Interaction Surface
A new default formulation for the embedded beam is introduced called “Interaction surface” that offers several numerical improvements, like less mesh sensitive results, a more realistic load transfer mechanism and smoother skin-traction profiles. This new default behaviour supersedes the line based embedded beam behaviour of 2025.1.3 and earlier. Note that the line based embedded beam is still available and can be selected by choosing the option ”Interaction line (legacy)” when selecting the new Interaction model property for the embedded beam material set. Projects from previous versions opened in 3D 2026.1 will be converted and will retain the legacy embedded beam behaviour. Newly created embedded beam material sets are automatically created with the Interaction model property set to “Interaction Surface”.
Cloud Interoperability: PLAXIS & GeoStudio - Tech Preview
Seequent Evo enables cloud-based interoperability between PLAXIS and GeoStudio, allowing teams to share 3D geometry with material name and colours. By reducing manual data recreation and improving consistency across geotechnical models, engineers can streamline workflows, enhance collaboration, and work more efficiently within a connected digital ecosystem.
This feature is released as a 'Tech Preview' under our Product Terms and requires access to Seequent Evo.
Georeferencing in PLAXIS 3D - Tech Preview
PLAXIS 3D now allows users to define the real-world location and orientation of a 3D model while continuing to perform analyses in local coordinates for optimal numerical accuracy. This enables seamless participation in geospatially referenced workflows and improves alignment with data shared through Seequent Evo, helping teams maintain both model accuracy and real-world positioning without complex coordinate transformations.
This feature is released as a 'Tech Preview' under our Product Terms and primarily supports Evo-enabled workflows.
Other changes and improvements
- SOLVED Known issue: When using multiple User Defined Soil Models in one phase it again possible to inspect the contour plots of any state parameters. [more info]
- The Help menu has been restructured and has new options pointing users to useful information like verifications and learning content like Learning Path, practical cases etc.
Compatibility note: To ensure there is no data loss in the original project and properly converting modified project properties, when opening older projects, they will be converted and saved with a
_converted suffix. Specifically when opening projects older than the 2025.1 version, due to major changes in the calculation input and results database, the projects require remeshing and recalculation.
Side-by-side installation with a previously released major version of PLAXIS is supported (e.g., PLAXIS 2025.1.x and PLAXIS 2024.3.x), enabling a smooth transition to the new version without impacting ongoing projects.
Be aware that earlier versions of PLAXIS
will not be able to open files saved in PLAXIS 3D 2026.1.
