How is shell length for BEM heat exchanger determined in AutoPIPE Vessel?
Answer:
The length value is measured from the face of the tubesheet as shown below.
This measurement is based on the total tube length specified in the model and subtracting the various dimensions back to the face of the tubeshet.
Example:
Give a bundle length = 6200 mm
Keep the Shell Component Length empty:
And Tubesheet dimension settings:

- Recessed Face = 9 mm
- Machining Ext. = 8 mm
- Tube extension = 3 mm
Subtract total dimensions for Tubesheet #1 and #2, from the total Tube's Straight Length

- 6200 - 2(9+8+3) = 6160 mm
