Purpose
ProjectWise Cloud will gradually discontinue SQL attribute support, requiring Administrators to switch to using ProjectWise CEL. Key Information
1) How will this be facilitated?
- ProjectWise Administrators can now enable a Security Setting: Prevent new SQL expressions in attributes. Once enabled, this will require ProjectWise CEL to be used for any new attribute configurations or editing existing attributes.
3) What is CEL?
- Common Expression Language (CEL) is a next generation scripting language for ProjectWise attribute configuration that replaces SQL. Introduced in ProjectWise 24.0.5, it is used to configure ProjectWise Attributes, Work Area properties and Workflow Rules Engine. 4) When is this taking place?
- The transition will occur in stages:

- May 2026 – Administrators can enable the setting “Prevent new SQL expressions in attributes”
- August 2026 – ProjectWise will default to having the setting on. An Administrator can toggle this off if more time is needed
- November 2026 – The setting will be permanently enabled
5) Do we need an updated version of ProjectWise Administrator to enable/disable this setting?
- Yes. Administrators will need ProjectWise Administrator 26.00.00.8017 or later
6) What impact will this have on end users?
- End users will not notice any difference, as this change only applies to Administrators. When Administrators create new or modify existing document attribute configurations or Work Area properties, they will need to use ProjectWise CEL instead of SQL.
7) Will all my existing SQL attributes continue to work with this setting enabled?
- Yes. All your previously created SQL attributes will work and remain visible to Administrators, even after November 2026.
8) What if I need to modify an existing SQL attribute?
- Any modifications to these configurations will require a conversion to CEL expressions
9) What should I do to prepare for this transition?
- We strongly recommend Administrators begin learning ProjectWise CEL so they are prepared when they need to create new configurations (or edit existing ones).
10) Is there a tool available to automatically convert my SQL attributes to ProjectWise CEL?
- Currently there is nothing that will recreate the attributes in ProjectWise CEL.
