How can I Export FlexTables and Graphs to Microsoft Word (.docx) to make adjustments and change the presentation style?
Starting with the 2026 release of the OpenFlows products above (26.00.00.XXX and higher) FlexTables and Graphs can be directly exported to Microsoft Word format (.docx). This functionality streamlines the process of creating reports and sharing model results, as you can now seamlessly integrate tabular data and graphical plots into your project documentation.
When a FlexTable or Graph is exported, a new Word document is automatically created. Furthermore, you can customize the appearance of the exported content using Chart and Table Templates. For graphs, the underlying data remains accessible in the Word document and can be edited via Excel, offering greater flexibility for reporting and presentation.
Follow the steps below to export a FlexTable or Graph to Word.
(The image below shows the location of the "Export to Word" button on both a FlexTable and a Graph window.)
You can control the appearance of your exported tables and graphs using templates.
For Graphs, the export to Word feature is currently only available for EPS graphs in HAMMER (initial conditions) as of 26.00.00.XXX. Exporting Time History graphs from the Transient Results Viewer is not yet supported but may be in a future release.
One of the key benefits of this feature for graphs is the ability to edit the data after it has been exported.
You might be wondering how these templates work. Let's talk about the Table Template for a moment (and the same logic applies to the Chart Template for graphs).
The "Table Template" button actually opens the template file that controls the initial style and formatting of your exported FlexTable. Here are a couple of useful things to know:
How styles are applied:
When the software is deciding the style for the contents of your table (like the font type and size), it only pays attention to the settings you have made in the first column and the header of the template file. Any style settings in the other columns are ignored for the table's content. Please refer the following short video -
Finding and managing the template file:
So, where is this template file located? It’s kept in your personal user settings folder. The easiest way to find it is to go to File > Info > Open User Settings Folder from the main menu.
If you ever delete this template from your user folder by mistake, don't worry. The next time you use the "Export to Word" feature, the software will automatically create a fresh copy of the default template for you from the main Program Data folder. It is important, however, that you do not delete the original template from the Program Data folder itself, as that can cause issues.
