Problem:
When installing ProStructures for AutoCAD, the installation process fails before completion and automatically rolls back. The log points specifically to the failure of a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable component.

Possible Root Causes:
- Missing or Corrupted Dependencies: ProSteel relies on specific versions of the .NET Framework or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. If these are damaged or a newer version is blocking an older one, the EXE package fails.
- Insufficient Permissions: The installer may have been blocked from executing a secondary process in the C:\ProgramData or Temp folders.
- Antivirus Interference: Real-time protection often flags secondary installers (the "EXE packages" mentioned in the error) as suspicious behavior, killing the process mid-installation.
- Pending Windows Updates: A previous update might be in a "restart required" state, locking the Windows Installer service.
Recommended Solutions:
The following solutions should be attempted in order to resolve the dependency issue and allow the installation to complete successfully.
Solution 1: Repair or Reinstall the Corrupted Component
This is the most direct method to fix the issue.
- Open the Programs and Features control panel. You can do this by pressing the Windows Key + R, typing appwiz.cpl, and pressing Enter.
- In the list of installed programs, carefully locate Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (x86).
- Select the item and click the "Change" or "Repair" button located in the header bar.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to repair the installation.
- If repair is not possible or does not resolve the issue, select the component and click "Uninstall".
- After uninstallation, download and install a fresh copy from the official Microsoft website for the "Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)".
- Once the component is repaired or reinstalled, restart your computer.
- Run the ProStructures for AutoCAD installer again, preferably by right-clicking the setup file and selecting "Run as administrator".
Solution 2: Use the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter
If the manual repair fails, Microsoft provides a dedicated tool to fix installation-related issues.
- Download the "Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter" from the official Microsoft support website.
- Run the downloaded utility and select the "Installing" option when prompted.
- The tool will scan for issues. Select the program you are having trouble with (ProStructures) or select "Not Listed" and let the tool detect and fix underlying problems.
- Follow the troubleshooter's instructions to completion.
- After the tool has finished, restart your computer and attempt to install ProStructures for AutoCAD again.
Additionally, it is recommended to turn off your antivirus (especially aggressive ones like McAfee or Norton) and the Windows Firewall for the duration of the install.
