E726-15: System has undefined bend at following point(s)... message appears in AutoPIPE, why?

Question:

The following error message appears when running a model consistency check report

 * * * E R R O R - MODEL * * *
E726-15:  System has undefined bend at following point(s)

why and how to avoid the issue?

Answer:

The most common issue causing this problem is the distance between the Bend's Near point and the TIP point or the TIP point and the Bend's Far point is to small to draw in the entire arc of the bend.

Lets look at an example:

1. Locate and observe the problematic node point.

2. Find the PipeID's Nominal dimension used for the bend

3. Find the bend radius specified:

4. Next find the distance node point distance used to make the bend. (hint, review the Points tab on the input grid)

5. Review the information gathered:

A 6" long radius bend with Near node point 9.18" away from the TIP, and 9.98" from the TIP to the Far end of the bend.

Question: Is 9.1" and 8.9" enough distance to draw a Long radius bend?

Answer: No. A long radius bend needs 1.5 x Dia, or 9" to be drawn correctly.

Avoidance:

    1. Increase the distance from the node point on the far end to be 9" or slightly more.
    2. Change the bend radius to be slightly smaller.
    3. Change the Bend Radius from Long to Short (Short radius = 1.0 x Dia or 6") where node points are >6" away.
    4. Delete the node point if there is another node point further downstream

In summary, the error message typically occurs when the distance before or after the TIP point is insufficient to draw the arc of a defined bend. The solution is easy, make sure there is enough distance both before and after the bend for the prescribed bend.
