Community Question:

Hello Bentley, I'm carrying out ship impact analysis with SACS Collapse and trying to share the impact energy between structure, ship and member. However, I have added the DNV2 option and indentation curve in IMPACT line, but the Ship Energy Absorbed is still zero. Could I know what is missing in my collapse input file that I cannot share the energy to ship?

Answer:

First of all, there we need to be sure that the force is sufficient to trigger the indentation on element and ship; there is no way to see ship energy absorption if the transfer load turns out to be too small in comparison with the parameter of the indentation curve.  for which you need to look for the table of indentation curves in the output file which depends on the indentation curse set in the input file

Then, you need to compare the transferred force with the minimum force needed to trigger the ship intention; for this, you need to look for the report of SHIP INDENTATION EVENT and review the force reported. As you can see on this case, until step 31 when 100% of energy is absorbed (Impact load applied in 40 steps), The energy has been absorbed by the deflection of the element, and no indentation has been presented due to the force is not sufficiently high or the structure doesn't have the enough rigidity to trigger ship indentation.
