Number of passes and Partition Plates are not defined correctly

Problem:

Users may experience invalid tube layouts or interference between tubes and partition plates.

In this case, when attempting to generate a 10‑pass horizontal U‑tube bundle, the computed bundle layout appear incorrect after clicking Compute, with partition plates overlapping or conflicting with tube positions.

Solution:

Root Cause:

The issue occurs when the Partition Plate checkbox is left enabled during bundle computation.

In APV:

Correct Workflow (Resolution):

Method 1: Automatic Partition Plate Placement (Recommended)

To allow APV to automatically calculate a valid tube and partition plate arrangement, follow the steps below:

      1. Uncheck the “Partition Plate” option
        • This allows APV to automatically determine the correct location.
      2. Click Compute to generate the tube bundle.
      3. APV will correctly generate:
        • 10 passes
        • 125 tubes (250 holes) for the U-tube configuration
      4. Review the generated layout.

Notes

Method 2: Manual Partition Plate Placement (User-Defined)

Use this method when a specific partition plate location is required.

Steps:

      1. Open the Bundle Layout.
      2. From the Accessories list on the left side, double-click on “Partition Plates.”
      3. Enable the User Defined option.
      4. Enter the correct location for each partition plate.
      5. Click Compute to generate the updated bundle layout.

Notes

Conclusion:

For multi‑pass horizontal heat exchanger designs, partition plates must be system‑calculated to avoid tube interference. Always ensure the Partition Plate checkbox is unchecked before computing the bundle unless a fully manual placement is intentionally required.
