Do WRC Bulletins Include SIFs?
No.
WRC 107 / 297 / 537 are intended to evaluate local stresses caused by external loads (forces and moments) applied at nozzles or attachments.
They do not include stress intensification due to openings under internal pressure.
-
- These stress indices are not part of WRC bulletins
- They are referenced in ASME Section VIII, Division 2 only
- They apply primarily to fatigue assessments of welds
- They are not mandatory for pressure vessel design under Division 1
How AutoPIPE Vessel Handles This
✅ AutoPIPE Vessel does NOT apply SIFs in WRC calculations
Reasons:
-
- WRC bulletins themselves do not define SIF usage
- ASME codes do not require SIFs for WRC-based nozzle stress checks
- Division 2 stress indices apply only to specific fatigue evaluations, which are not supported in APV
➡️ Therefore, no stress intensification factor is applied to WRC results in AutoPIPE Vessel.
