Category: Revit Link Issues
Error message: "The file can no longer be synchronized independently because it is now referenced by <Master_file_name>. Please un-map the file and then re-synchronize the connection that contains the master file."
Issue:
The Revit file status has changed from being a master file to a linked file and can't be synchronized.
Cause:
During an earlier synchronization, the Revit file was treated as the master file. However, it is now a linked file that is referenced by another master model.
Solution:
Un-map the Revit file and then re-synchronize the connection that contains the new master file. This file will then be synchronized.
Error message: "This nested file is referenced as an overlay link only and so it's completely invisible and was not processed. It's better to un-map and exclude this file from the iModel.
Issue:
The file was not synchronized as the link file is not visible in the master.
Cause:
The file was not processed as it was configured in Revit as an overlay. For information around the differences between nested overlays and attachments, please see the Autodesk article: https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2025/ENU/?guid=GUID-F8929030-3D77-4F7B-A01F-3C88C600466E The synchronization behavior is consistent with the display of the model within Revit.
Solution:
Un-map the file from the iModel or change from an overlay to an attachment in Revit.
