Issue

When using the "Create Terrain Model From Design Meshes" tool in OpenRoads Designer, users have reported that the generated terrain model is missing large portions of the corridor. Although the terrain appears to have the correct extents, many areas are left without triangles, resulting in incomplete surfaces.

Solution

Solution 1: Manual Terrain Cleanup

Use this method if you prefer to manually control and clean up the terrain model.

1. Delete Triangles
Use the Delete Triangle tool to remove the affected or problematic areas in the terrain.

2. Apply Terrain Edits
Navigate to:
OpenRoads Modeling → Terrain → Edit → Edit Model
Use the Delete Edit function to clean up residual geometry and regenerate the terrain.

This method is useful when specific areas are known to be problematic and require targeted cleanup.

Solution 2: Adjust Void Minimum Area

Use this method for a quicker and more automated fix, especially when no voids are expected in the terrain.

1. Open the Create Terrain Model From Design Meshes dialog.

2. Locate the Void Min Area setting.

3. Set the value to 100,000 (or higher) if your design does not contain voids.

This prevents the tool from misclassifying valid areas as voids, allowing triangles to be generated correctly on the first attempt.
