Problem:
Bing maps backgrounds is not working correctly unless using a raster attachment. The following requirements have been met:
1.) Internet Connection
2.) Coordinate System defined in the DGN file
3.) Logged into the CONNECTION client (which is up-to-date).
But the Bing command on each view window and in the ribbon still do not work.
Solution:
This issue is related to a critical change that occurred recently on Microsoft's end (Announcing Bing Maps for Enterprise Platform End of Life - Microsoft Q&A). Many User's were experiencing this problem after Microsoft deprecated the Bing Maps system starting on June 30th, 2025.
If a user has their own Bing Maps API key, only raster attachments will work—Bentley’s built-in Bing Maps will not load.
To fix this, remove the configuration variable MS_RASTER_BINGMAP_KEY.
Restart the application and Bing Maps should now be working.
