Objective

It is often a project requirement to be able to identify what location of a job site raceway systems belong to in order to produce accurate Bills of Quantity for each location and to clearly define work packages for construction.  In the context of Plants this is often referred to as the "Plant Area." In this article, you will learn how to achieve the following:

  1. Configure the "Location" Raceway UDA as either a lookup list or a manual entry field.
  2. Add the "Location" property to the Raceway Systems you will be using for your project.
  3. Route Raceways with the “Location” property.
  4. Include the "Location" property in your Raceway IDs
  5. Create a Bill of Quantity report that groups the raceway parts by the "Location" property.

Configure “Location” Raceway UDA

  1. Select Manage > Options > UDA Settings > Raceway UDAs.
  2. Expand the “Location” property and select the “Class” picklist.  A screenshot of a computerAI-generated content may be incorrect.
    1. If you want to predefine a list of possible values you can set class to “Collection.” Just be aware that you will have to enter the possible values into your raceway catalogs in a later step.
    2. If you want to be able to freely enter any text into this property set the class to “val.”
  3. If you want to set a default value that will get used you can enter that into the “Default value” property.
  4. If you want to require the property to have a value you can set the “Mandatory” picklist to 1.

Add the "Location" property to your Raceway Systems

  1. Select Manage > Raceway Catalog Creation > UDAs A screenshot of a computerAI-generated content may be incorrect.
  2. Select the Modify UDAs of existing raceway catalog button. A screenshot of a computerAI-generated content may be incorrect.
  3. Select the raceway system you want to add the “Location” property to. In this example we will choose “Cable Tray” and then select the “Generic Cable Tray” catalog and click OK.
  4. From the “Available UDAs” list select the “Location” property and click the >> button to add it to the selected catalog. A screenshot of a computerAI-generated content may be incorrect.
  5. If you previously configured the “Location” property to use the class “val” the “Possible values of selected UDA” list will be grayed out as shown above.  If, however, you set it to use “Collection” you will be able to enter the list of possible values you want.
    1. Enter a “Name” of the location that you want to use (i.e. 101).
    2. Enter a “Tag” that matches the “Name” property (i.e. 101).
    3. Repeat steps 5a and 5b for each location in your project.
  6. Click OK to save the updates.
  7. Repeat steps 2-6 for each raceway system and catalog that you will use on your project.

Route Raceways with the “Location” property

  1. Select the Raceway > Raceway Router tool.
  2. Select the Raceway system and catalog you modified to include the “Location” property.
  3. Expand the “UDAs” entry at the bottom of the Properties tab.
  4. Enter or select a value for the “Location” property A screenshot of a computerAI-generated content may be incorrect.
