How to Create a New Workspace and WorkSet in Bentley Raceway and Cable Management CONNECT Edition

Background

In Bentley Raceway and Cable Management CONNECT Edition, users may attempt to create a new Workspace and WorkSet using the "Create WorkSpace" option. However, when creating a new DGN file within this setup, the following error may appear: "Please select BRCM project first, then select DGN file to open."

Although the drawing opens, users are unable to load a model or display a 3D view. This issue occurs because the new Workspace and WorkSet are not yet associated with a valid BRCM project configuration.

          

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Launch Bentley Raceway and Cable Management CONNECT Edition
  2. On the Work Page, click the WorkSpace drop-down and select "Create WorkSpace"

  3. Enter a Workspace name and optional description, then click OK.
  4. Click "Create WorkSet", provide a WorkSet name, and associate it with the new Workspace.
  5. Now, open the existing OOTB BRCM Workspace.
  6. In Project Manager, use the "Copy Project" command to duplicate an existing WorkSet. Refer to this KB article for how to copy the existing WorkSet.

  7. Copy the new WorkSet folder and its .cfg file into the newly created Workspace folder.

C:\ProgramData\Bentley\BRCM CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\[ Workspace Name]\WorkSets\

  1. Navigate to the copied WorkSet’s configuration file:

C:\ProgramData\Bentley\BRCM CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\[ Workspace Name]\WorkSets\\[ WorkSet Name]\Standards\BRCM\BRCM.cfg

  1. Open BRCM.cfg and update the DB_ID, and any path entries pointing to the old Workspace or WorkSet. Refer snapshot below.

  2. Save the file and restart BRCM.
  3. On launch, select the new Workspace and WorkSet.
  4. Open the DGN file. The error should no longer appear.
  5. Load the model and verify that the 3D view is available.
