iTwin Spatial Editor
One of the options in the Edit iModel panel is to modify the display extents using the iTwin Spatial Editor.
[Important: Before adjusting the iModel or its display extents, ensure that there are no active synchronizations in progress.]
The iModel display extents refer to the bounding box or volume of interest within the iModel's coordinate system. All geometry within the iModel should be contained within these limits to avoid display anomalies. For more information about this concept and related issues, please refer to the Synchronization Report available here.
To manually adjust the iModel Display Extents, you will need to install and run a desktop application called iTwin Spatial Editor. Here’s a brief overview of how to use it:
- In the Infrastructure Cloud portal navigate to the Edit iModel dialog for the iModel that you want to adjust. You will find an iModel display extents area here.
- Before proceeding, ensure you have the iTwin Spatial Editor app installed. You can do this by clicking on the download link provided (1). This will download the `iTwinStudioSetup.exe` file, which you need to install.
- Once the installation is complete, return to the Edit iModel page in your browser.

- Click the Manage Extents button (2). This will launch the iTwin Spatial Editor application on your desktop. After signing in, open the iModel you wish to adjust.

- Click Edit Extents button (3) and use the arrows (4) to adjust the iModel display extents to the desired size. You can quickly identify the geometry based on color:
-
- Green – element is within the extents
- Red – element is outside of the extents
- Blue – element is at the extents boundary

[NOTE: If certain elements are far from the extents boundary, they may not be rendered. Depending on your needs, you might need to update the source files to position these elements correctly or delete them. For more information about potential issues and the best solutions, click here ]
- Click Save (5) to apply your changes. If you cancel the extents editing or close the application without saving, no changes will be made to the iModel.
