Import FEMAP to SACS

SACS supports the import of FEMAP-neutral files as SACS model files, which can be used in any SACS analysis. SACS can now import plates and solid elements created in FEMAP. The import is part of the Precede graphic modeler. Currently, only plates, cubes, and tetrahedrons are imported. It also supports isotropic material properties for those elements and joint loading.

How to Import FEMAP into SACS?

1. Open SACS Precede and start with a blank model. SACS Executive > Modeler > Create New Model > OK > Start Blank Model > Units > OK

If the FEMAP model is large, user needs to use Alphanumeric names for the joints, which can be modified in the PRECEDE settings.

2. Select FILE > Import > Import FEMAP File, to bring up the import dialog. You can create user-defined joint and group naming for the model.

User also needs to define the input units because FEMAP uses an implicit unit system > OK

SACS will convert the model from the unit system selected into the input model file units.

3. Select the FEMAP .neu file > OK to convert the file to SACS and open it.

4. Save the model as a SACS model file, and it can be used in SACS analysis.
